Sometimes there comes along a movie that hits you right in the sweet spot of your life and resonates you to your core. I had just such a movie experience a few weekends ago. I had just watched the Oscars and one of the buzz favorites was Whiplash. I will admit, I had no burning desire to watch a show about a drummer, but I had a free night with no kids around and boy am I glad I visited Redbox! I have never re-watched a movie from Redbox until I saw this one. I watched it Friday night. I watched it Saturday morning. I kept it and watched it again Saturday nite?? Yeah, I'll be buying this one. :o)
I confess, I do love jazz music, so the music score totally drew me in. But the real resonation was in seeing this guy fighting to live his passion as a drummer, driven to be the best at the point of destroying himself. I loved the dynamic between the artist and his instructor. The instructor (J. K. Simmons, absolutely earning his Oscar!) wants to create the next musical genius and pushes his students to the limit and beyond in order to achieve this dream.
This movie was another reminder along my path, a signpost telling me to get cracking on my purpose. I don't have time to waste. I want to spend each day living out loud and in color!
