Extraterrestrial competing in the happiest place on earth!

Well I finally ventured into trying a Run Disney event, participating in the Star Wars half marathon yesterday morning in Disneyland!  Thank you Erin for letting me tag along on this for-fun race event!!

My adventure started off Friday morning with a flight to Santa Ana (via Denver).  We arrived with some time to kill before Erin's friend Amy arrived, so got to tour Huntington Beach and browse the ped shopping area along waterfront.  Then on to our destination hotel just 2 miles from Disneyland.  We unloaded our gear then out the door to hit race expo for our packet pickup.  This was conveniently located right next to Downtown Disney which we took full advantage of!  Dining, shopping, people watching fun!

Day 2 was spent at the park, enjoying the freedom of no crying kids in our party.  It made the line waits much less stressful.  With an early Sunday race start, we left the park by 6pm to find supper and then to bed.

Day 3 was EARLY, left hotel by 4 am to ensure we got to race corral by 5:30 race start.  The costumes (by both participants and spectators alike) were AMAZING!!  I felt like a costume slacker with my $12 target-bought Star Wars t shirt??  However, by mile 13, I'm sure those extremely chaffed persons were regretting their costume choices ;). While I didn't post a remarkable time (just a hair under 2:30), given the number of dead stops due to poor logistics and picture taking opportunities in first 3 miles of race, I'm happy with finishing and running all I could.  I think I've determined I prefer quieter races with fewer participants but it was nice to have a change of pace.

Disney definitely does an outstanding job keeping the parks spotless and it was amazing to see how quickly it went from race to regular park day.  By the time we got to California adventure in early afternoon, you couldn't tell a race had occurred that day??

Here's a few shots from the weekend, overall a great vacation!
